Job summary

Veolia in Shrewsbury is seeking a Plant Operator to support the Energy Recovery Facility and operate plant from the central control room. You will help ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations with a focus on reliable performance and data recording.

The role requires experience in a continuous process environment, an interest in mechanical and electrical plant, and willingness to work rotating shifts with overtime as needed, contributing to Veolia’s sustainable future.

Qualifications

• Engineering experience in a continuous process environment, preferably on steam generating equipment.
• Interest in mechanical and electrical plant with hands‑on experience.
• Experience gained through shift working with rotating shifts and overtime when required.
• Good understanding of environmental and health and safety issues.

Responsibilities

• Assist the shift team leader with operation and monitoring of plant from the central control room using the DCS, including refuse crane operations.
• Ensure day-to-day compliance with the Environmental Permit; report non-compliance or incidents.
• Carry out routine plant inspections, adjustments and data recording.
• Ensure safe and efficient operation of the Energy Recovery Facility at all times.
• Monitor stocks and receipts of consumables and collections.
• Work as part of the Operations team supporting other staff and contractors.
• Engage in personal development to enhance knowledge and skills relevant to the role.

Salary: £53,833.37 per annum plus Veolia benefits

What you'll be doing;

• Assisting the shift team leader with the operation and monitoring of plant from the central control room using the distributed control system (DCS), including the operations of refuse cranes.
• Ensuring day to day compliance with all aspects of the Environmental Permit, reporting any non-compliance or incidents to the Shift Team Leader
• Carrying out routine plant inspections, adjustments and operations as required, collecting and recording plant data
• Ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Energy Recovery Facility at all times
• Monitoring stocks and taking receipts of consumables and collections
• Working as part of the Operations team, assisting the Shift Team Leader and supporting other team members as required
• Assisting other company staff and contractors as required
• Undertaking personal development to enhance knowledge and skills relevant to the role

What we're looking for;

• Engineering experience working in a continuous process environment, preferably on steam generating equipment
• An interest in mechanical and electrical plant with some hands‑on experience of plant operations is essential
• Experience gained through shift working, with the ability to work a continuous rotating shift pattern including overtime when required
• A good understanding of current environmental and health and safety issues
• Waste Incineration experience is desirable but not essential.
