Job summary

Veolia is recruiting an Operation & Maintenance Assistant at Battlefield Energy Recovery Facility in Shrewsbury. You will support safe and reliable transformation of residual waste into energy, and help manage waste reception, plant inspections and daily operations.

We offer 33 days leave, a pension, health resources, and training opportunities. A full driving licence is essential, with forklift qualifications desirable, and you will join a dedicated team committed to safety and sustainability.

Qualifications

• Strong technical ability and a practical, hands-on approach to supporting plant operations.
• Safety-conscious team player who can work cooperatively with colleagues.
• Confident problem-solver who can respond to day-to-day operational issues and changing priorities.
• Self-motivated and organised, able to manage several tasks with minimal supervision.
• Good communication and computer skills, able to share information clearly and accurately.
• Full driving licence is essential; counterbalance forklift, telehandler and wheel loader qualifications, or equivalent, are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain the Battlefield Energy Recovery Facility to transform residual waste into energy.
• Manage the waste reception and ash residue areas, keeping them organised, clean and safe.
• Coordinate vehicle movements around the site and operate mobile plant to load vehicles and move materials.
• Operate plant refuge cranes following site procedures and safety requirements.
• Clean plant and equipment to maintain health, safety, cleanliness and performance.
• Carry out plant inspections, take readings and share information with the operations team.
• Work with the operations shift team and take direction from the Operations Supervisor or Shift Team Leader; 40 hours per week on a staggered day rota.

What you'll be doing;

• Help operate and maintain the Battlefield Energy Recovery Facility, supporting the safe and reliable transformation of residual waste into energy.
• Manage the waste reception and ash residue hall areas, keeping them organised, clean and safe for colleagues, visitors and contractors.
• Coordinate vehicle movements around the site and operate mobile plant to load vehicles and support the efficient movement of materials.
• Operate the plant refuge cranes, following site procedures and safety requirements.
• Clean plant and equipment regularly to help maintain high standards of health, safety, cleanliness and operational performance.
• Carry out plant inspections, take readings and share relevant information with the operations team to help monitor the facility.
• Work alongside the operations shift team, take direction from the Operations Supervisor or Shift Team Leader, and carry out other duties as required. The role is 40 hours per week on a staggered day rota.

What we're looking for;

• Experience operating mobile plant would be an advantage, along with a willingness to learn and develop skills as part of the operations team.
