Job summary

SCINERGY Recruitment Limited is recruiting for a Plant Manager to lead a brand-new anaerobic digestion facility near Goole, North Yorkshire. You will drive commissioning, start-up and operational handover, then ensure safe, compliant and efficient operation of the plant.

This hands-on leadership role involves establishing procedures, building a capable team and overseeing maintenance, HSE compliance and performance across the site as it moves into full operation.

Qualifications

• Operational management experience within anaerobic digestion, biogas, energy from waste or similar environments.
• A relevant engineering, process, scientific or operational qualification.
• Experience leading and developing operational or engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of process-plant operations, maintenance and performance optimisation.
• Experience managing contractors, maintenance schedules and operational budgets.
• Knowledge of environmental permitting and health & safety requirements.
• Strong fault-finding, problem-solving and communication skills.
• A proactive, hands-on approach to managing a developing site.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Experience commissioning a new facility; knowledge of AD biology and feedstock management is advantageous; IOSH/NEBOSH desirable.

Responsibilities

• Support commissioning, performance testing and operational handover of the new anaerobic digestion plant.
• Manage day-to-day operation, ensuring safe, efficient and reliable performance.
• Lead, manage and develop the site's operations and maintenance team.
• Monitor and optimise the anaerobic digestion process to maximise biogas production and plant availability.
• Manage feedstock intake, storage and blending, plus digestate processing and removal.
• Develop site operating procedures, systems and performance standards.
• Establish and manage preventive maintenance schedules using the site's CMMS; coordinate reactive maintenance and plant shutdowns.
• Investigate breakdowns and process issues, implement improvements to reduce downtime.
• Ensure compliance with Environmental Permit and HSE requirements; oversee risk assessments and permits to work.
• Manage budgets, monitor KPIs and report on plant performance; support recruitment and training; participate in out-of-hours rota.

Plant Manager - New Build Anaerobic Digestion

SCINERGY Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Plant Manager to join a brand-new anaerobic digestion facility outside Goole, North Yorkshire.

The Plant Manager will initially support the commissioning, start-up and operational handover of the facility before taking responsibility for its safe, compliant and efficient operation. This will include managing plant performance, maintenance, health and safety, environmental compliance and team development.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity to shape a new site from the outset, establishing operating procedures and building a team as the facility moves into full operation.

As the Plant Manager you will be responsible for:

• Supporting the commissioning, performance testing and operational handover of the new anaerobic digestion plant
• Managing the day-to-day operation of the facility, ensuring safe, efficient and reliable performance
• Leading, managing and developing the site's operations and maintenance team
• Monitoring and optimising the anaerobic digestion process to maximise biogas production and plant availability
• Managing feedstock intake, storage and blending, alongside digestate processing, storage and removal
• Developing site operating procedures, systems and performance standards
• Establishing and managing planned preventive maintenance schedules using the site's CMMS
• Coordinating reactive maintenance, contractors, servicing and plant shutdowns
• Investigating breakdowns and process issues, implementing improvements to reduce downtime
• Ensuring compliance with the Environmental Permit and relevant health, safety and environmental legislation
• Overseeing risk assessments, permits to work and Safe Systems of Work
• Managing operational and maintenance budgets, monitoring KPIs and reporting on plant performance
• Supporting recruitment, onboarding and training of site personnel
• Participating in an out-of-hours escalation or call-out rota when required

To be considered for this position, you should have:

• Previous operational management experience within anaerobic digestion, biogas, power generation, energy from waste, wastewater treatment or a similar process environment
• A relevant engineering, process, scientific or operational qualification
• Experience leading and developing operational or engineering teams
• A strong understanding of process-plant operations, maintenance and performance optimisation
• Experience managing contractors, maintenance schedules and operational budgets
• Working knowledge of environmental permitting and relevant health and safety requirements
• Strong fault-finding, problem-solving and communication skills
• A proactive, hands-on approach to managing a developing site
• A full UK driving licence
• Experience commissioning a new facility and knowledge of AD biology, feedstock management and biogas production would be advantageous. An IOSH or NEBOSH qualification would also be desirable.
