Alecto Recruitment is seeking an experienced AD Site Manager to take ownership of the safe, compliant and efficient operation of an anaerobic digestion facility in East Yorkshire. You will lead the day-to-day operation, manage the onsite team of operators and technicians, coordinate maintenance and drive improvements in plant performance, environmental compliance and cost control.

Site Manager - Anaerobic Digestion Plant

Lead the day-to-day operation of a renewable energy plant and play a key role in the UK's transition to a cleaner, greener future.

We're looking for an experienced AD Site Manager to take ownership of the safe, compliant and efficient operation of an anaerobic digestion facility in East Yorkshire.

This is a hands‑on leadership role where you'll have responsibility for plant performance, environmental compliance, team management, maintenance coordination and continuous improvement.

What you'll be doing

As the AD Site Manager, you'll take overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the site, ensuring the plant operates safely, efficiently and in line with its environmental and operational requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing the daily operation of the AD plant to maximise uptime, efficiency and output
• Monitoring and optimising the biological performance of the digestion process
• Coordinating feedstock deliveries, storage and blending
• Managing digestate storage, handling and export
• Monitoring plant outputs including biogas, biomethane, electricity, heat and digestate
• Taking ownership of the site's Environmental Permit and ensuring compliance with Environment Agency requirements
• Managing PAS110 compliance, environmental records and waste management documentation
• Leading site health & safety, including RAMS, safe systems of work and site inductions
• Managing internal and external audits across environmental, H&S, fire and insurance requirements
• Investigating incidents, near misses and non‑conformances and implementing corrective actions
• Leading and developing the onsite team of operators, technicians and contractors
• Managing rotas, training, competency assessments and performance
• Coordinating planned preventative maintenance with engineering teams and external contractors
• Supporting breakdown response, root cause analysis and long‑term corrective actions
• Managing site assets, critical equipment and spare parts
• Monitoring plant KPIs and reporting on energy output, gas production, digester health and feedstock usage
• Supporting budgets, procurement and cost control
• Identifying opportunities to improve plant performance, reduce costs and increase commercial returns

What we're looking for

You'll need previous experience managing an anaerobic digestion plant, together with the ability to lead a team and take ownership of site operations.

You’ll ideally have:

• Strong knowledge of plant operation and process systems
• The ability to interpret PFDs and P&IDs
• Good understanding of environmental permitting and regulatory compliance
• Previous experience managing and developing operational teams
• Knowledge of health & safety legislation including PUWER, LOLER and COSHH
• Experience using SCADA systems, process monitoring and operational reporting
• Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to remain calm during breakdowns and emergencies
• A proactive, organised and safety‑focused approach
• The ability to work both hands‑on and strategically

Desirable experience

It would be advantageous if you have:

• An engineering, environmental science or process operations qualification
• WAMITAB/COTC - or willingness to obtain
• IOSH or NEBOSH
• Experience with biogas upgrading, CHP or biomethane injection
• Knowledge of agricultural operations and digestate management
