Job description

Job Title: Construction Planner - Civil Infrastructure

Location: East Midlands, UK

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and highly analytical Construction Planner to join a leading Tier 1 Principal Contractor. You will be playing a critical role in the delivery of a major, high-profile highway and regional infrastructure upgrade project.

The successful candidate will take ownership of the project schedule, ensuring that all planning, sequencing, and resource allocation are optimized for safe, efficient, and timely delivery. You will work closely with project managers, site teams, and commercial departments to track progress, mitigate risks, and manage contractual obligations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Schedule Development & Management: Create, maintain, and update robust baseline schedules and live project programmes from pre-construction through to final handover.
  • Tracking & Reporting: Monitor site progress against the baseline, reporting on milestones, critical path variances, and providing regular updates to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Linear & Spatial Planning: Apply linear scheduling techniques suitable for extensive infrastructure and roadworks to ensure seamless logistical sequencing.
  • Resource & Cost Integration: Perform resource loading and leveling; integrate cost and schedule data to support Earned Value Management (EVM) and accurate forecasting.
  • Risk & Delay Analysis: Identify potential schedule bottlenecks or risks early. Perform Time Impact Analysis (TIA) and support commercial teams with Extension of Time (EOT) claims and schedule risk analysis.
  • Coordination: Collaborate heavily with supply chain partners, subcontractors, utilities providers, and site operations to ensure all parties are aligned with the master schedule.
  • Contractual Compliance: Ensure all planning activities and reporting strictly adhere to the project's contract requirements (e.g., NEC frameworks).
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience: Proven track record working as a Planner on major civil engineering, earthworks, or highway infrastructure projects.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced expertise in Primavera P6 is essential. Working knowledge of Microsoft Project and Linear Scheduling software (TILOS).
  • Methodologies: Deep understanding of the Critical Path Method (CPM), Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) development, and Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Contracts: Strong working knowledge of NEC contract administration and its planning requirements (e.g., Clause 31/32 programmes).
  • Analytical Skills: Strong capability in constructability reviews, sequence optimization, and forensic delay analysis.
  • Communication: Excellent stakeholder communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex schedule data into actionable insights for site teams.
  • Bonus/Desirable: Familiarity with 4D BIM (Synchro) or Schedule Risk Analysis (Monte Carlo simulations).
What We Offer:
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
  • The opportunity to be a key player on a major, long-term regional infrastructure scheme.
  • Continuous professional development and career progression opportunities within a top-tier contracting environment.
