Job summary

HCRG Care Group is seeking a Pharmacy Dispenser to join our healthcare team in Chelmsford’s prison environment. You will dispense medications for inmates, manage stock, and coordinate with Clinical Pharmacists and Pharmacy Managers to ensure safe, accurate dispensing.

The ideal candidate holds NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Service Skills or equivalent, has a compassionate approach, and is ready to work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, in a secure facility. Sponsorship is not offered at this time.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Service Skills or equivalent.
• Dispenser qualification or equivalent is required.
• Ability to build rapport with inmates and healthcare colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Process prescriptions and repeat prescriptions in line with SOPs.
• Ensure medicines and appliances are checked against prescriptions and confirm details with pharmacists or doctors if in doubt.
• Assist in stock management, ordering, and daily stock control for smooth dispensary operation.
• Handle dispensary phone inquiries and manage controlled drug stock with the team.
• Assist with dispensing of prescriptions and collection of orders from suppliers.
• Work on substance misuse wing to administer medications under supervision.
• Transfer medications between wings and support pharmacy technicians.

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Pharmacy Dispenser to join our healthcare team in a challenging yet rewarding prison setting. As a Pharmacy Dispenser, you will play a crucial role in the dispensing and management of medications for inmates within the facility.

• You must hold an NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Service Skills/equivalent and have a non-judgmental and compassionate approach.
• Process all relevant prescriptions and repeat prescriptions as authorised by GP's, Psychiatrist and Prescribing nurses, Pharmacists, Dentist where appropriate, in accordance with the good practice principles of the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme and follow SOP’s;
• Ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions, to check with the Clinical pharmacist, Pharmacy manager, Lead pharmacy technicians, Pharmacy technicians and authorising doctor or duty doctor;
• Collect all due prescription from the Pharmacists and Pharmacy technicians.
• Get GP to sign the Controlled drug prescriptions prior to labelling and dispensing. If in doubt with the process, always check with the Pharmacist and team leader.
• Manage ordering stock, stock control daily, date checking and organise dispensary to ensure dispensary runs smooth and keep it neat and tidy.
• Answering and dealing with dispensary phone enquiries
• Monitoring stock level of controlled drugs and liaise with Clinical Pharmacist, Lead Pharmacy technician and Pharmacy Manager.
• Sorting and disposing of unwanted/returned medication.
• Any other duties to assist in the smooth day to day running of the Dispensary as directed by the Pharmacy Manager, Team leader, Pharmacy technicians, Lead Pharmacist.
• You will collect orders from suppliers from the Main Gate and arrange collection of return. You will participate in dispensing of prescriptions.
• You will be required to work on the substance misuse wing to administer medications to the patient under the supervision of Pharmacy technicians.
• You will transfer medications between the wings, at reception and assist pharmacy technicians when needed.
