Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Safely administer medications to patients and carry out medicines management activities per policies and professional standards.
  • Conduct medication audits, stock checks, and controlled medicines monitoring to ensure safety and compliance.

Working within a wing/ward environment, you will play a vital role in the safe administration and management of medications, ensuring patients receive the medicines they need in a timely and professional manner. You will work closely with the Clinical Lead and Pharmacist Manager to support effective medicines management and maintain the highest standards of patient safety.

Main Responsibilities
  • Safely administer medications to patients and carry out medicines management activities in line with policies, procedures, and professional standards.
  • Conduct medication audits, stock checks, and controlled medicines monitoring to ensure compliance and patient safety.
  • Deliver a high-quality, specialist pharmacy service within a secure prison environment, adhering to national and local policies.
  • Provide a medicines administration service to patients, ensuring accurate documentation and record keeping.
  • Deliver wing-based medicines management support in collaboration with clinical colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Support the implementation of medicines management initiatives, service developments, and improvement projects across the prison.
  • Contribute to medicines optimisation programmes and support the effective management of prescribing and medication budgets.
  • Promote safe and effective pharmacy practice by providing advice, guidance, and training to both patients and staff.
  • Work independently within established guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Medicines Policies, while recognising when to seek clinical support.
  • Maintain high standards of confidentiality, governance, and security at all times within the custodial healthcare setting.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Lead, Pharmacist Manager, and wider healthcare team to deliver safe, effective, and patient-centred care.
  • Support continuous quality improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance pharmacy services and patient outcomes.
What We\'re Looking For

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Be a qualified Pharmacy Technician registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Have experience working within a hospital, primary care, community pharmacy, or healthcare setting.
  • Possess a strong understanding of medicines management and safe medication practices.
  • Be confident working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Demonstrate excellent organisational skills and attention to detail when handling medication and patient records.
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with patients and colleagues.
  • Be comfortable using a range of IT systems and digital healthcare applications.
  • Have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Be able to manage competing priorities effectively while maintaining high standards of accuracy and professionalism.
  • Display a flexible, patient-centred approach and a commitment to delivering safe, high-quality care.
