Job summary

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher, AI Safety, to lead a focused research program on safe, agentic AI in pharmaceutical R&D. The role reports to the Scientific Fellow, AI Safety, across a two-year fixed-term appointment.

Based in Beerse, UK, Netherlands, Ireland, or the US, the position offers hybrid work arrangements and collaboration with the Data, Data Science & AI organization to develop provable, testable, and scalable safety architectures.

Qualifications

• PhD in computer science or AI/ML required or preferably completed before start date.
• First-author publications or preprints in AI safety/alignment or related areas.
• Hands-on experience with foundation models and agentic AI and their failure modes.
• Strong programming skills (Python and ML frameworks) and reproducible experiments.

Responsibilities

• Lead a focused, publishable research program on governance of agentic AI in pharma R&D.
• Develop and test deterministic controls and adversarial evaluation methods for safety.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate research into practical safeguards.
