Job summary

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher, AI Safety to join the Data, Data Science & AI organization. This fixed-term research appointment focuses on governing agentic AI in pharmaceutical R&D through provable controls and adversarial testing, with results guiding the GenAI Platform.

You will design experiments, publish results, and collaborate with engineering partners to translate methods into auditable, production-ready solutions for regulated

Qualifications

• PhD in computer science, AI/ML, applied mathematics, or a closely related technical field.
• Hands-on experience with foundation models and agentic AI; abilities in design of experiments and evaluation of safety.
• First-author publications/preprints in AI safety/alignment or related areas.
• Strong programming skills (Python and ML frameworks) and ability to build reproducible experiments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English; ability to present technical arguments to scientific audiences.

Responsibilities

• Execute an independent research program on controls, adversarial assurance, or safety-native architecture for agentic AI in regulated settings.
• Design rigorous, reproducible experiments with baselines and uncertainty estimates.
• Evaluate data interventions and post-training methods for safety in regulated use cases.
• Prototype layered architectures constraining agent behavior and translate requirements into testable specs.
• Collaborate with platform engineering to move validated methods into production and ensure reproducibility.
• Present work to scientific, engineering, and leadership audiences; represent the team at conferences.
