South Tyneside Council is seeking three Peripatetic Social Workers to deliver flexible, high-quality social work across Children’s Social Care. These permanent posts operate at MarketPlace, Town Hall and Civic Offices with a strong focus on restorative, relational practice.

You will work across Assessment, Supporting and Strengthening Families, Children Cared For, Kinship and other areas, contributing to a wide range of experiences and potential career progression towards Senior Practitioner

Qualifications

  • Establish effective working relationships, manage complex cases and maintain high standards across diverse service settings.

Salary Range: SCP 32 £44,253 to SCP 36 £48,738 pa Career Grade (Bar £46,579) (Inclusive of Retention Payments, Subject to Review March 2028) depending on experience

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Peripatetic Social Worker to join our dynamic social work workforce. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for social workers who want to gain a broad range of experiences working in different areas of Children’s Social Care and who may aspire to be a Senior Practitioner or Practice Manager in the future.

Key Responsibilities

The Peripatetic Social Worker will provide flexible, high-quality social work support across Children’s Social Care services, including Assessment, Supporting and Strengthening Families, Children Cared For, Kinship and other service areas as required.

The postholder will contribute to maintaining effective service delivery during periods of increased demand, staff absence, vacancies, service developments and implementation of new practice initiatives. They will undertake assessments, interventions, care planning and direct work with children, young people and families while promoting positive outcomes through restorative, relational and strengths-based practice.

The role requires a confident and adaptable practitioner who can quickly establish effective working relationships, manage complex cases and maintain high standards of practice across a variety of service settings.
