Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a Theatre Practitioner to join the Theatre and Anaesthetics team at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. You will deliver high-quality perioperative care across various surgical specialties, supporting anaesthetic and scrub roles as training progresses.

The role offers a comprehensive induction, mentoring, and opportunities for theatre-specific training including anaesthetic and scrub practitioner courses. Visa sponsorship may be considered for eligible roles.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse or ODP with current professional registration.
• Knowledge of perioperative practice and patient-centred care delivery.
• Understanding of professional codes of practice, clinical governance and patient safety principles.
• Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
• Knowledge of infection prevention and control procedures.
• Understanding of health and safety legislation and safe working practices.
• Experience of working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and prioritise workload effectively.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and lifelong learning.
• Willingness to undertake theatre-specific training, including Anaesthetic and Scrub Practitioner courses.
• Basic IT skills and ability to use electronic patient records and theatre information systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist perioperative care to patients before, during and after surgery, working autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Assist in preparing operating theatres and specialised equipment, and support surgical procedures as both an anaesthetic and scrub practitioner.
• Monitor patients throughout their perioperative journey, assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists and colleagues to deliver safe, effective and person-centred care.
• Contribute to service improvement, support and mentor junior staff, and participate in education and training activities.
• Maintain a safe clinical environment through adherence to infection prevention, health and safety, medicines management and governance requirements.
