Job description

At AO, we want to make sure our customers are happy. When they have a smile on their face, we know we've done a good job. Did you know we have more 5

  • Trustpilot reviews than any other UK electrical retailer? We're rated 'Excellent' overall and have over 1 million customer reviews!

But what happens when our customers appliances reach the end of their life? That's where AO Recycling comes in - a business built on innovation, sustainability and finding better ways to do things every single day. Every year, thousands of fridges, washing machines and other large domestic appliances need responsible recycling. At our specialist recycling facilities in Telford, we're turning yesterday's appliances into tomorrow's resources, recovering valuable materials, reducing waste and helping build a more sustainable future.

We're looking for a Senior People Partner, based at our Telford site and reporting to the Group Recycling Director. You'll be a trusted advisor to the leadership team, creating and shaping the people agenda, from developing leaders and building capability to driving engagement, performance and culture, you'll play a key role in helping our teams thrive and our business grow. This isn't a role for someone who likes sitting on the sidelines. We need someone who's curious, commercially minded and loves being close to the action. Someone who enjoys building relationships, influencing decisions and rolling their sleeves up to solve problems. Our people are our superpower, and we're unstoppable when we're together! We want your ideas to flow, and what better way to make that happen than being based onsite, 5 days a week, where our culture fuels creativity, collaboration and growth.

Here’s What You Can Expect To Be Doing
  • Partnering with the Recycling Leadership Team to create, shape and deliver people plans that support business objectives and future growth.
  • Building strong, trusted relationships with managers at all levels, providing coaching, challenge and support when they need it most.
  • Supporting managers to create high-performing teams through effective performance management, engagement and development initiatives.
  • Enable line managers to be the best they can, through coaching, guidance and expert support
  • Develop people initiatives through effective problem solving and continuous improvement
  • Using people data and insight to identify trends, spot risks, solve problems and improve business performance.
  • Support organisational change and help teams navigate through periods of growth and transformation.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to attract and retain talent across sites
  • Driving talent development, identifying talent gaps and working proactively to address them
  • Build effective relationships with trade union representatives and lead formal discussions
  • Lead, coach and develop a People Advisor
  • Champion engagement, wellbeing and a positive, inclusive culture
  • Working collaboratively with the group people team on business wide activities
  • You've worked in a Senior / People Partnering role and know how to balance people priorities with commercial outcomes, in a fast-paced environment
  • You're all about relationships, making time to get to know people, quickly creating a reputation as a trusted partner, and ability to question and challenge the status quo
  • Experience of working with and building positive Trade Union relationships
  • Pragmatic, resilient and comfortable with ambiguity, able to manage competing priorities at pace.
  • Be able to understand data quickly, with the ability to turn insight into action
  • Have a passion for continuous improvement and curiosity to truly make a difference
  • You will have buckets of determination, resourcefulness, and resilience
  • You love to get stuck in and make a difference no matter what the day brings
  • We're big on appliances and electricals, REALLY big. Washing machines, fridge freezers and TVs? They're our bread and butter. Mobiles, Airwraps and Ring doorbells? Yep, those too. If it plugs in, powers up or makes life easier, AO probably has it.
  • But we're more than that… For over 25 years, trust has been at the heart of everything we do, helping us become the UK's most trusted electrical retailer. Our customers rate us 4.9 on Trustpilot from nearly ONE MILLION reviews and more 5-star ratings than any other UK electrical retailer, because they know they can rely on us and it's the exact same for our AOers too. We truly believe it's more than just a job, we genuinely care about each other and our impact on making our customers lives easier, by helping them brilliantly. Everyone here knows how their role makes a difference. Our people are our superpower, so, when it comes to finding new AOers, we know it's about more than just a CV, it's about what makes you, YOU.

Our benefits are designed to cover the moments that matter to AOers. From health and wellness to giving back - you'll be rewarded inside and outside of work.

Benefits
  • Holidays; 25 days, plus bank holidays (increasing to 27 days after 2 years with us!)
  • Flexible benefits; Including 9% employer pension contribution, car allowance and private healthcare
  • Opportunity to participate in the AO incentive programme
  • Be a VIP at the AO Arena; we have loads of opportunities to win free tickets and pre-sale access!
  • Health & wellbeing; discounted gym membership, an onsite spa and our Help @ Hand scheme giving you access to virtual GP's, Mental Health support and much more.
  • Discounts; exclusive discounts across our product range.
  • Family leave; Enhanced Maternity, Paternity and Adoption leave.
  • Making a difference; 2 fully paid days a year to donate your time to any charity of your choice.
  • On site perks; start your day with free on site parking, grabbing a complimentary breakfast and a coffee at our subsidised in house coffee shop!

We believe the people we employ should reflect the diversity of our customer base; that way, we can communicate in a way that recognises all backgrounds, races, ethnicities, genders, ages, religions, abilities, and sexual orientations. And that's why we're asking these questions. Making sure our recruitment process is inclusive is a key part of what we're doing at AO to encourage diversity as an employer. Read more How will we use the data? After we've collated the data, we'll look at the patterns to assess if we are inclusive at each stage. If it turns out that we aren't, then the data may help us identify where we can improve. The data collated won't have any impact on your application and is not shared with hiring managers or the recruitment team.
