People Operations Manager

Department: Strategy & Operations

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Location: UK - London

Compensation: GBP 75,000 - GBP 90,000 / year

Description

A bit about Field

At Field, we're accelerating the build out of renewable energy infrastructure to reach net zero. We are starting with battery storage, storing up energy for when it's needed most to create a more reliable, flexible and greener grid. At Field, we will show that batteries are a totally viable part of our energy infrastructure - now, not in some distant future.

We have ambitious plans to become the defining new clean energy player in Europe over the next few years, gradually expanding beyond batteries into new asset types.

Your mission

This is a new role, created to help us continue to provide a best in class service to our growing team. The focus of this role will be on problem solving and implementing solutions that improve the efficiency of our people processes, while continuing to build on our amazing culture.

We've built a strong foundation so far, and we're looking for someone with strong analytical skills and a ruthless ability to prioritise for impact to help us level up.

This role would suit someone with strong people operations or HR generalist experience gained within a dynamic, fast changing and culture-driven environment. If you've only ever worked for large corporate businesses this isn't going to be the place for you - we need people who thrive on solving new problems every day and who are energised by finding new and better ways of working.

Key Responsibilities

What you'll be doing

This is a broad and varied role with the opportunity to have massive impact. Key responsibilities include:

Process + Efficiency

  • Partner with team leads to understand what they need from the people team to make them able to deliver more effectively in their roles - diagnose issues, shape hypotheses, implement solutions and monitor their effectiveness / how to optimise
  • Create new frameworks and toolkits for our team leads and Fielders as the need arises - helping us to mature as the business grows, without becoming too process driven or corporate in our approach
  • Support team leads and their teams through ad hoc employee relations issues, including performance concerns, flexible working adjustments, absence concerns, disciplinary issues, etc
  • Reviewing and optimising our people processes across countries, with a focus on consistent and high quality employee experience in all locations, balanced with efficient processes that scale effectively over time
  • Attend events and proactively building a network of peers to help us stay attuned to sector specific challenges and trends, bringing back suggestions to help develop our thinking and improve our ways of working

Performance + Recognition

  • Partner with the Employee Experience Manager and our Senior Leadership Team to monitor overall team health, wellbeing and performance, shaping interventions to increase these and demonstrating material positive gains over time
  • Partner with teams to review and update existing career maps, ensuring competency breakdowns remain current and accurately reflect the skills needed across the business
  • Support team leads and Fielders in the creation of impactful development plans, designed to help align individual development ambitions with current and future business needs
  • Design initiatives, processes and tools designed to help promote and active feedback culture

Reward

  • Complete salary benchmarking exercises to ensure we're always paying competitively and can continue to attract the top talent
  • Collate and submit the monthly payroll submission to our external partner, ensuring changes are reflected in our HRIS and employee files
  • Conduct periodic reviews of our benefits offering in each location, ensuring we remain competitive and that we're responding to employee feedback promptly and transparently

Upcoming projects that you'll have the opportunity to lead or contribute to:

  • Implementation of a new performance and feedback tool (currently being selected), with a specific focus on the performance feedback and development planning tools
  • HRIS upgrade tender process - we need to level up from our current system and implement a tool that fosters greater autonomy for our teams and offers better long term scaleability
  • Review and improve our role levels matrix to make sure it continues to be fit for purpose for the business as we grow - help us to map this against external data sources like salary surveys and employee
  • Review and update our Reward Philosophy - help us to think through how we balance local legislative requirements and cultural norms, against the wish to have a consistent and harmonious employee experience between teams

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

A bit about you

These are some of the things that you'll need to have to be successful (and enjoy it!) here:

  • the ability to use data and feedback to diagnose issues, shape hypotheses and define reasonable proposals which balance a number of factors (culture, brand, cost, scalability, etc)
  • a ruthless ability to prioritise for impact - it isn't always obvious what needs to be done first, so you'll need to be a clear, analytical thinker who thrives on bringing order to chaos
  • strong presentation skills with the confidence to get buy in from senior stakeholders - you shape compelling, commercial, culturally aligned proposals that are logically presented and help guide your audience to clear outcomes
  • the ability to deliver through others - you motivate others to take action by by shaping clear, actionable plans and demonstrating the value of your contribution
  • you pride yourself on working efficiently, with a raft of examples up your sleeve which show how you've increased your impact over your career
  • a gifted plate-spinner - you like being involved in multiple projects at once and get a buzz from juggling a few different operational tasks in tandem
  • a clear communicator with an ability to wield the power of storytelling to influence others towards collaborative decisions
