Job summary

WMCA is seeking an Assistant People Business Partner (Projects) to support the Bus Franchising and Transport programmes from our Birmingham office. You will partner with project leaders to plan, advise and deliver people change activities, ensuring workforce needs align with milestones.

The role focuses on workforce planning, engagement, and risk management, with a 3-year fixed-term contract. The successful candidate will influence leaders and support an inclusive, high-performing Transport

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a People business partnering setting (APB preferred).
• Ability to work with senior leaders and teams.
• Strong knowledge of TUPE and employment law.
• Excellent interpersonal, coaching and stakeholder skills.
• Degree-level education required.
• CIPD Level 5 HR qualification preferred.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

• Provide proactive People and Culture support to the Bus Franchising and Transport programme and wider projects.
• Build trusted relationships with Directors and senior managers, offering advice on policies and workforce challenges.
• Support workforce planning, retention, engagement, and change management.
• Coordinate input from People and Culture specialists for governance and data insights.
• Champion fair, inclusive, and consistent people practices and evidence-based decisions.
• Collaborate with Finance and People Business Partners to monitor resourcing costs and value for money.
