The MMWF Primary Care Network is recruiting a General Practice Assistant to work across its four GP practices. The role combines clinical tasks, such as observations, phlebotomy and immunisation support, with administrative work, including sorting clinical post and arranging referrals, to help clinicians manage their workload. The post is network-wide, so the holder works across several practices within a multidisciplinary team that includes pharmacists, physiotherapists and mental health practitioners. Essential requirements include phlebotomy experience and previous use of SystmOne, and candidates should be willing to work towards a GP Assistant Certification.
What the job involves

- Sorting clinical post and prioritising actions for the GP, signposting items to other staff
- Extracting information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding it to patient notes
- Preparing patients before GP appointments, taking a brief history and basic readings
- Carrying out simple clinical observations and investigations as directed, such as urine dipstick, blood pressure, ECGs and phlebotomy
- Supporting the GP with immunisations and wound care
- Completing basic non-opinion forms and core parts of forms for the GP to approve and sign, such as insurance, mortgage and benefits forms
- Explaining treatment procedures to patients
- Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies, such as getting an on‑call doctor on the phone for advice or admission while the GP continues consultations
