Job summary

The MMWF Primary Care Network is recruiting a General Practice Assistant to work across its four GP practices. The role combines clinical tasks, such as observations, phlebotomy and immunisation support, with administrative work to help clinicians manage their workload.

The post is network-wide, so the holder works across several practices within a multidisciplinary team including pharmacists, physiotherapists and mental health practitioners.

Qualifications

• GCSE grade A to C in English and maths.
• Willingness to work towards a GP Assistant Certification qualification.
• Experience in a primary or secondary care setting.
• Phlebotomy experience.
• Experience using the SystmOne clinical system.

Responsibilities

• Arrange appointments, referrals, tests and follow-ups for patients.
• Sort clinical post and prioritise actions for the GP; signpost items to staff.
• Extract information from clinical letters and add to patient notes.
• Prepare patients before GP appointments, taking brief history and basic readings.
• Carry out simple clinical observations and investigations (e.g., urine dipstick, BP, ECGs, phlebotomy).
• Support the GP with immunisations and wound care.
• Complete basic non-opinion forms and core forms for GP approval (insurance, mortgage, benefits).
• Explain treatment procedures to patients.
• Assist GP liaising with external agencies for on-call advice/admission.
• Support QOF reviews.
