Job summary

Michael Page Finance in Southampton is seeking a Payroll Assistant to support payroll across multiple entities. You will process starters and leavers, manage tax and auto-enrolment, handle payroll queries, and contribute to continuous improvement within a fast-paced finance team.

The role requires accuracy, strong numerical skills and experience with payroll software. You will collaborate with managers and employees, ensuring timely, compliant payroll operations and pension contributions.

Qualifications

• Experience in payroll processing or a related role.
• Familiarity with payroll software and systems.
• Understanding of tax codes, pension contributions and payroll legislation, including auto-enrolment, National Minimum Wage.
• Strong numerical and organisational skills.
• A proactive approach to solving problems and handling queries.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain the payroll system, ensuring accurate and timely processing
• Process starters and leavers, including final payments, P45s, and statutory calculations
• Act as a first point of contact for payroll-related queries from employees and managers
• Administer payrolled benefits and ensure correct tax treatment
• Support payroll integration and onboarding activities relating to acquisitions and organisational growth
• Administer pension schemes and auto-enrolment requirements
• Process employee expenses in accordance with company policies
• Assist with payroll reporting, reconciliations, and audit requests
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance payroll processes and control
