Job summary

Portfolio Group is seeking a Payroll Officer to take ownership of processing end-to-end payroll for teams in the UK. The role covers onboarding, employee records, and day-to-day HR queries, with hands-on exposure to various payroll duties.

You will support the Senior Payroll Services Officer, ensure accurate processing and reconciliations, and contribute to continuous improvement of payroll processes in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• Itrent experience.
• End-to-end payroll administration experience.
• Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation, especially teachers pensions.
• Experience processing high volumes of payroll transactions.
• Payroll reconciliation and validation experience.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to work to strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Desirable – CIPP qualification or payroll-related certification.

Responsibilities

• Support the Senior Payroll Services Officer by providing dedicated support to nominated areas of the University while working as a team to provide a high-quality seamless service.
• Support end-to-end payroll processes.
• Ensure HR systems and documents are updated accurately and in a timely way.
• Identify ways the service can continuously improve.
• Receive payroll queries and respond in a solution-focused way.
• Ensure all payrolls are processed accurately and on time.
• Ensure third-party payments, including pension and statutory payments, are processed accurately and on time.
• Ensure payrolls are reconciled prior to BACS release.
• Adhere to best practice payroll processes with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Maintain and update HR webpages as required.
• Maintain confidentiality in relation to people matters and information management complying with GDPR.
• Work with colleagues across HR to provide a joined-up service.
• Analyze data when required.
• Contribute to projects as a payroll subject matter expert.
• Any other reasonable duties assigned by the Director of HR.

As a Payroll Officer, you’ll take ownership of processing for teams on an end-to-end basis. You’ll also get hands-on exposure to a variety of duties – from onboarding and employee record management to supporting day-to-day HR queries.
