Job summary

CTR Select in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced Payroll Administrator to join its People and Payroll team. You will support monthly payroll for around 600 permanent staff, manage pension administration, and prepare payroll data for external processing.

You will work closely with the Payroll Manager and wider People team to ensure accurate, timely payroll deliverables while handling employee queries in a confidential, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as Payroll Administrator or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation (PAYE, NI, statutory payments).
  • Experience with workplace pensions and auto-enrolment.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy with payroll data.
  • Ability to work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with end-to-end monthly payroll processing and input for external provider.
  • Handle employee payroll queries and maintain confidential records.
  • Prepare payroll data for European employees where required.
  • Support quarterly commission data and payments.
  • Assist with pension administration and auto-enrolment processes.
  • Collaborate with People, HR and Finance teams to ensure smooth processes.

Payroll Administrator
Job Overview

An established organisation is seeking an experienced Payroll Administrator to join its friendly and professional People and Payroll team. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-focused Payroll Administrator to support the accurate and timely processing of payroll for approximately 600 permanent employees.

The successful Payroll Administrator will work closely with the Payroll Manager and wider People team, supporting a range of payroll and pension administration activities. The role will involve monthly payroll processing, employee queries, pensions administration, payroll data preparation and ensuring payroll processes are completed accurately and within strict deadlines.

This position would suit an organised and proactive Payroll Administrator with previous payroll or HR administration experience who is keen to develop their knowledge of payroll legislation and employee benefits within a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
Monthly Payroll
  • Assist the Payroll Manager with end-to-end monthly payroll processing.
  • Prepare and input payroll information for submission to an external payroll provider.
  • Ensure employee payments are processed accurately and on time in line with payroll deadlines.
  • Check payroll data and identify discrepancies or missing information.
  • Respond to routine employee payroll queries and requests for information.
  • Manage and monitor the payroll inbox, ensuring queries are dealt with promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee payroll records.
  • Assist with the preparation and collation of payroll information for European employees.
Commission & Quarterly Payroll
  • Download individual salesperson activity and payroll data from business systems to support quarterly commission calculations.
  • Assist with the preparation and checking of quarterly commission payment information.
  • Ensure payroll and commission data is accurate and submitted within required deadlines.
Pension Administration
  • Support the administration of workplace pension schemes and auto-enrolment processes.
  • Prepare and send monthly pension communications to new starters.
  • Manage pension-related employee queries, including requests to opt in, opt out or take a pension contribution holiday.
  • Maintain accurate pension records and ensure relevant information is processed correctly.
  • Support the wider People team with pension administration and employee lifecycle processes.
HR & People Administration
  • Support the People and Payroll Manager with general employee administration.
  • Send regular communications and information to new starters.
  • Assist with employee lifecycle processes, ensuring relevant payroll and People documentation is completed accurately.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the People, HR and Finance functions.
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive employee and payroll information.
Skills & Experience
  • Previous experience working as a Payroll Administrator or in a similar payroll, HR or finance administration role.
  • Previous experience of payroll processing is highly desirable.
  • Good understanding of UK payroll legislation, including PAYE, Income Tax, National Insurance and statutory payments.
  • Knowledge of workplace pensions and auto-enrolment requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy when working with payroll data.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, employee queries and competing deadlines within a fast-paced environment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confident working independently while also contributing effectively to a wider team.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to work with spreadsheets and payroll data.
  • Strong IT and data-handling skills.
  • High level of confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive employee information.
  • A positive, adaptable and proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Willingness to develop knowledge of payroll legislation and best practice.
