Job summary

Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT) in Oxford seeks an experienced Bioinformatician to analyze, validate and improve bioinformatics workflows that translate raw sequencing data into actionable insights for infectious diseases and metagenomics.

You will work with pathogen-specific and metagenomic data, collaborating closely with wet-lab scientists to apply microbial profiling, taxonomic classification, and antimicrobial resistance analyses. A PhD and strong Python/Bash skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Doctorate-level expertise in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Microbiology, Genomics or a related field.
• Hands-on experience analysing next-generation sequencing data, ideally in metagenomics or infectious diseases.
• Strong programming skills in Python and Bash; familiarity with R desirable.
• Exposure to workflow managers (e.g., Nextflow) and container technologies (e.g., Docker).

Responsibilities

• Develop, apply and improve reproducible bioinformatics workflows for WGS and metagenomic data analysis.
• Support interpretation of complex sequencing datasets considering contamination and mixed organisms.
• Collaborate with wet-lab scientists and other bioinformaticians to ensure robust analyses.
• Stay current with infectious disease genomics trends and implement improvements to workflows.
• Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive team environment and knowledge sharing.
