Job summary

The Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT) in Oxford is seeking a Scientist, Biotechnology to contribute to the Pathogen Programme with a metagenomic pathogen detection platform. You will develop and test modular components for nucleic acid extraction and integration into a device architecture, generating high-quality data.

The role involves experimental design, data interpretation, and collaboration with engineers in a multidisciplinary team, with emphasis on quantitative approaches and problem

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent industry experience in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Bioengineering or related field.
• Hands-on lab experience in biochemistry, chemistry and/or molecular biology; expertise in surface chemistry and nucleic acid handling.
• Strong understanding of experimental design, controls, reproducibility and data quality.
• Experience troubleshooting experimental workflows and improving performance, robustness or reproducibility.
• Ability to analyse and interpret experimental data in a structured, quantitative manner.

Responsibilities

• Design and document hypothesis-driven experiments to generate reproducible data.
• Refine workflows to improve reliability, reproducibility and performance.
• Analyze data and inform decisions using quantitative methods.
• Collaborate with scientists and engineers to integrate workflows into device designs.
• Maintain clear experimental records and contribute to technical reports and cross-functional discussions.
