Job summary

Long Term Futures Ltd in Wolverhampton is seeking a confident Pastoral Support Worker to help pupils (KS2–KS4) re-engage with learning in a long‑term, full‑time capacity. The role focuses on pastoral support, safeguarding, and de‑escalation in a setting with children at risk of exclusion.

You will work with teachers and senior leaders to build relationships, manage behaviour, and support emotional regulation while promoting consistent, safe boundaries across the provision.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with behavioural, pastoral, SEMH, or additional needs is highly desirable.
• Experience in Alternative Provision, PRU, SEN setting, mainstream school, youth work, or similar environment would be advantageous.
• Confident managing challenging behaviour and able to remain calm under pressure.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding and ability to identify and report concerns.

Responsibilities

• Providing pastoral support to pupils across KS2, KS3, and KS4
• Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may have struggled in mainstream education
• Supporting pupils at risk of, or who have experienced, permanent exclusion
• Responding to challenging behaviour with de-escalation and positive handling strategies
• Supporting emotional regulation, resilience, and positive decision-making
• Encouraging engagement with education and improved attendance
• Identifying safeguarding concerns and reporting them per school procedures
• Recording and communicating pastoral and safeguarding information accurately
• Collaborating with teachers, senior leaders, families, and external professionals to support outcomes
