Job summary

TeacherActive is partnering with a mainstream secondary school in Brynmawr to recruit a Pastoral Support Officer on a long-term temporary basis with an immediate start. The role focuses on managing challenging behaviour, providing pastoral support to pupils and promoting positive relationships to aid academic and personal growth.

Successful candidates will have prior experience in school settings, strong behaviour management and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working within a school, pastoral support or educational setting.
• Experience managing challenging behaviour and supporting pupils with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
• Confidence liaising with teachers, support staff and other professionals.
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A patient, resilient and adaptable approach with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with teaching and support staff to manage challenging behaviour and promote positive relationships.
• Provide pastoral support to pupils and support their emotional wellbeing.
• Help pupils overcome barriers to learning and build confidence.
• Maintain a calm, supportive learning environment and de-escalate behavioural incidents when needed.

The school is looking to appoint a dedicated Pastoral Support Officer on a long-term temporary basis with an immediate start. The successful Pastoral Support Officer will work closely with teaching and support staff to manage challenging behaviour, provide pastoral support to pupils and promote positive relationships, helping young people overcome barriers to learning and develop their confidence and emotional wellbeing.

The successful Pastoral Support Officer will have:

• Previous experience working within a school, pastoral support or educational setting
• Experience managing challenging behaviour and supporting pupils with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties
• Confidence liaising with teachers, support staff and other professionals
