Job summary

Plymouth City Council is seeking 10 part-time Passenger Assistants (term time only) to support children and young people with SEND on journeys to and from school or college. Roles require availability for school start/end times and proximity to Plymouth boundaries for pick up.

Full training will be provided and an enhanced DBS check will be undertaken. Applicants should be committed to safety and wellbeing throughout each journey.

Qualifications

• Must live within the Plymouth boundary or have transport to the City of Plymouth boundaries for pick up.
• Willing to work mornings and afternoons during school term time.
• Committed to the health, safety and wellbeing of children and young people on journey.

Responsibilities

• Accompany children and young people on their journey to and from school/college or other educational establishments.
• Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of children and young people during transport.

What We Need

Opportunities have arisen in the Transport and Allowances Team to appoint 10 part-time, term time only Passenger Assistants. You must live within the Plymouth boundary or can transport yourself to within the City of Plymouth Boundaries for pick up.

What You’ll Do

Passenger Assistants are employed to accompany children and young people (4 - 25 years of age) who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), on their journey to and from school/college or other educational establishments. They are responsible for the health, safety and wellbeing of the children and young people between home and school.

When You’ll Do It

The hours vary but will be around school/college opening and closing times and you will therefore need to be available between approximately 7.00 am to 9.30 am and between 2.30 pm and 5.15 pm to apply for this role. You will need to be available for 10 journeys a week - that’s 5 mornings and 5 afternoons Monday - Friday.

How It Works

You will need to be able to work on your own initiative and have a genuine interest in supporting children and young people with SEND. Passenger Assistants are usually picked up and returned home by the school transport vehicle.

What’s Provided

Full training will be provided prior to commencing work and an enhanced DBS check will be undertaken for these posts.
