Job summary

Portsmouth City Council is seeking a Support Assistant (Category 2.5 Sheltered Housing) for Nicholson Gardens on a permanent basis, working 22.5 hours per week. The role provides day-to-day support to residents who are 55 and over, with personal reassurance, domestic assistance, and liaison with care agencies and families to maintain independence.

You will work within a Shelter Housing Scheme team under the Scheme Manager, with induction and ongoing training.

Qualifications

• Have a caring nature, enjoy talking to people and have good listening skills.
• Have a professional approach to your work.
• Have good written skills and basic numeracy.
• Be prepared to provide domestic help to residents who require support, and in an emergency, with their personal care.
• Be physically able to participate in moving and handling tasks.

Responsibilities

• Provide residents with day-to-day help according to need, e.g. domestic help or personal reassurance.
• Liaise with care agencies, Adult Social Care, GPs, chemists and families of residents.
• Be able to deal with emergencies and assist frailer residents with personal care when needed.
