Job summary

Marchant Recruitment has partnered with a local Upminster school to recruit a reliable part-time School Caretaker. You will help maintain safe, clean, and presentable premises, perform routine checks, assist with minor repairs, and support site security.

The role is three days per week, with days discussed at interview. The ideal candidate has caretaking or facilities experience, good organisation, and a hands-on approach, able to work independently while following school procedures.

Qualifications

• Experience in caretaking, maintenance or facilities is desirable.
• School caretaker experience is advantageous.
• Practical knowledge of general repairs and building maintenance.
• Basic carpentry, decorating or plumbing skills are beneficial.
• Awareness of site security and safe working practices.
• Good organisation and attention to detail.
• Reliable, punctual and hardworking approach.
• Ability to work independently and manage daily tasks.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to work three days per week, with days agreed at interview.
• Willingness to complete safeguarding checks and school training.
• Right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Assist with opening and securing the school premises as required.
• Carry out routine checks of buildings, classrooms and external areas.
• Undertake minor repairs and general maintenance tasks.
• Identify and report maintenance issues, defects and potential hazards.
• Check doors, windows, locks and access points for damage or faults.
• Maintain clean, tidy and safe communal areas.
• Assist with moving furniture and equipment when required.
• Prepare rooms and facilities for meetings, assemblies and school activities.
• Support site security and follow visitor access procedures.
• Receive deliveries and assist with moving supplies.
• Help maintain outdoor areas, entrances and pathways.
• Support contractors attending the site when authorised.
• Ensure tools and maintenance equipment are stored safely.
• Follow health and safety procedures and relevant risk assessments.
• Report urgent maintenance concerns to the appropriate staff.
• Work collaboratively with school staff to maintain the premises.
