Job summary

University of Derby is seeking a part-time Fashion Technical Adviser to support garment pattern cutting, construction and manufacturing in our fashion workshops. You will prepare workshops, demonstrate equipment, maintain machinery, and help students develop practical skills using industry-standard techniques.

The role requires hands-on experience with industrial sewing machinery, pattern drafting, fitting and production methods, and a strong focus on health and safety in the workshop to support

Qualifications

• Proven hands-on experience in garment construction, pattern cutting and manufacturing processes.
• Experience operating and maintaining industrial sewing machinery and pressing equipment.
• Ability to demonstrate industry-standard techniques to individuals and groups in a practical workshop.
• Strong communication skills and a solid understanding of Health & Safety in workshop environments.

Responsibilities

• Prepare workshops for teaching and demonstrate specialist equipment.
• Maintain and troubleshoot sewing machinery and resources used in fashion workshops.
• Advise on garment construction methods and production processes for coursework and competitions.
• Support student projects and wider School activities with practical technical expertise.
