Job summary

University of Derby is seeking a Fashion Technical Adviser to support teaching in our fashion workshops. You will bring hands-on expertise in garment construction, pattern cutting and garment manufacturing, operating industrial sewing machines, presses, and related equipment.

You will work 18.5 hours per week on a 2-year fixed-term contract, supporting students and staff in delivering practical sessions, ensuring safe workshop practices, and maintaining equipment and facilities.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating and maintaining industrial sewing machinery and pressing equipment.
• Strong understanding of garment construction techniques, pattern drafting, fitting, finishing, and production methods.
• Ability to demonstrate industry-standard equipment to individuals and groups.

Responsibilities

• Prepare workshops for teaching and demonstrate specialist equipment.
• Maintain machinery and resources in the technical facilities.
• Advise on garment construction methods and production techniques.
• Support student projects, competition garments and School activities.
