Job summary

South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust in Otterbourne is seeking an Emergency Call Taker (part-time) to be the first point of contact for 999 callers. You will stay calm, ask the right questions, provide reassurance, and support callers through critical moments while coordinating life-saving responses.

On-site role in Otterbourne Emergency Operations Centre with structured training from January 2027, progression opportunities, NHS benefits, and annual leave.

Qualifications

Good standard of education (i.e. 2 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including English) or equivalent demonstrable experience
Experience in customer-focused environment
Experience using computerised systems
Experience in call centres
Experience in rotating shifts
Previous NHS experience
Experience in patient care
Attention to detail and accurate data entry
Ability to use communication and computerised systems
Map reading

Responsibilities

Be the first point of contact for 999 callers and gather essential information
Participate in a comprehensive training programme
Attend full-time training shifts and coaching sessions
Work on-site at the Emergency Operations Centre in Otterbourne, Hampshire

Education

Two GCSEs (incl. English) or equivalent experience
