Job description

Administrator | Part-Time | Jarrow | £14ph | Temp to Perm

A new role you can genuinely make your own! Are you a super-organised Administrator looking for a part-time opportunity where you can make a real impact?

We're delighted to be recruiting for a fantastic new opportunity with a growing small business in Jarrow. This is a brand-new position within the business, giving the successful candidate the opportunity to take ownership, improve processes and help shape the role as the company continues to grow.

This position will initially be offered on a temporary basis, with a view to becoming permanent for the right person. We are particularly interested in candidates who are available immediately or have a short notice period and are keen to secure a long-term opportunity.

This is a hands‑on role where no two days will necessarily be the same. We're looking for someone who is organised, proactive and happy to muck in and get involved across all areas of the business.

The Details
  • Location: Jarrow, office based
  • Hours: Tuesday-Thursday, 24 hours per week (8 hours per day)
  • Flexibility: Potential flexibility on hours for the right person
  • Pay Rate: £14 per hour, depending on experience
  • Contract: Temporary initially, with a view to becoming permanent
  • Start Date: Immediate start or short notice preferred
  • Free parking available
About the Role

You’ll provide essential administrative support across the business, helping to keep everything running smoothly both in the office and for the team working on site.

As this is a new role, there is plenty of scope to develop it as the business grows. You’ll have the opportunity to introduce and streamline processes, improve organisation and become a key part of the day-to-day running of the business.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Processing invoices using Xero
  • Raising purchase orders and allocating costs
  • Inputting and checking site staff timesheets, preparing information in Excel and exporting to the accountant
  • Allocating jobs to site staff and issuing job sheets
  • Ordering materials, PPE, stationery and uniforms
  • Managing fuel cards and ID cards
  • Maintaining accurate employee records
  • Processing DBS checks for site staff
  • Supporting Health & Safety administration
  • Managing contractor H&S documentation
  • Keeping staff certifications and accreditation records up to date
  • Supporting compliance administration
  • Assisting with supplier queries and obtaining quotations for materials
  • Streamlining and implementing administrative processes
  • Providing general administrative support wherever needed
About You

We’re looking for someone who is practical, organised and proactive, with a genuine willingness to get involved.

You’ll be someone who enjoys being the person who keeps everything organised, spots what needs doing and gets on with it, rather than waiting to be asked.

You’ll be comfortable managing different priorities, working independently and taking ownership of your workload. Most importantly, you’ll be someone who mucks in, takes pride in getting things right and wants to become a valued part of a growing business.

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • Previous administration experience
  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail
  • Good Excel/Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • A proactive, hands‑on approach
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Confidence working independently
  • A willingness to support colleagues across the business

Xero experience would be ideal but is not essential - training can be provided for the right person.

Why Join?

This is a great opportunity to join a growing business at an exciting stage of its development.

Because this is a newly created position, you won’t simply be stepping into an established admin function. You’ll have the opportunity to shape the role, introduce better processes and see the direct impact of your work.

The business has a straightforward, honest and down-to-earth culture. They’re looking for someone who will roll up their sleeves, get involved and become an important part of the team.

If you’re looking for a part‑time administration role that could develop into something long‑term, and you’re available immediately or on a short notice period, we’d love to hear from you.

We are an equal-opportunities employer who puts expertise, energy and enthusiasm into improving everyone's chance of being part of the workplace.

We respect and appreciate people of all ethnicities, generations, religious beliefs, sexual orientations, gender identities, abilities and more.
