Job summary

Derby City Council is seeking a Group Manager for Parks and Greenspaces to lead an extensive network of parks, nature areas and community greenspaces. You will influence Derby’s climate goals and healthier communities through strategic leadership and hands-on management.

You will lead a diverse team, manage major contracts, and ensure safe, accessible spaces while delivering high-quality services within budgets and council policies.

Qualifications

• Leadership experience in parks and green space services
• Experience managing diverse sites (parks, sports pitches, allotments, cemeteries)
• Proven ability to lead large operational teams and complex contracts
• Strong financial management and value-for-money delivery

Responsibilities

• Lead the overall management of parks, open spaces, play areas and broader green spaces across the city.
• Plan development and improvements to support wildlife, reduce emissions and climate resilience.
• Manage budgets, contracts and resources to ensure efficiency and sustainability.
• Ensure parks are safe, welcoming and accessible for all communities.
• Collaborate with residents, groups and partners to deliver improvements together.
• Provide clear leadership to a large workforce with focus on safety and inclusion.
• Oversee health, safety and emergency planning for parks and green spaces.
