Job summary

Roman Catholic Diocese of Westminster in Hitchin seeks a Parish Administrator to support day-to-day parish operations. You will be the first point of contact for parishioners, volunteers and clergy, ensuring smooth, welcoming office functions and accurate record-keeping.

Working with the Parish Priest, you will coordinate communications, maintain databases, organise events, and assist with baptisms, weddings and funerals while embodying our values of competence, reliability, honesty,

Qualifications

  • Experience in an administrative or secretarial role.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Publisher).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact for parish office and visitors.
  • Prepare weekly newsletters, notices, liturgy materials and parish communications.
  • Maintain parish databases, records and filing systems.
  • Manage diaries, appointments and parish events.
  • Coordinate room bookings and parish facilities.
  • Assist with baptism, wedding and funeral administration and record-keeping.
  • Order supplies and liaise on building maintenance and repairs.
  • Support volunteers and parish rotas.
  • Assist with fundraising and community events.

Job description

The Diocese of Westminster is seeking a friendly, organised, and professional Parish Administrator to support the day-to-day running of our vibrant parish in Hitchin. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys providing excellent administrative support while contributing to the life and mission of the Catholic Church. As the first point of contact for parishioners, visitors, volunteers and clergy, you will play an important role in ensuring the parish office operates efficiently and warmly. About the Role Working closely with the Parish Priest, you will provide comprehensive administrative and office management support, helping to coordinate parish communications, maintain records, organise events, and support the smooth running of parish activities.,

  • Acting as the first point of contact for the parish office.
  • Preparing and producing weekly newsletters, notices, liturgy materials and parish communications.
  • Maintaining parish databases, records and filing systems.
  • Managing diaries, appointments and parish events.
  • Coordinating room bookings and supporting the day-to-day running of parish facilities.
  • Assisting with baptism, wedding and funeral administration, including maintaining registers and preparing documentation.
  • Ordering supplies and liaising regarding building maintenance and repairs.
  • Supporting parish volunteers and maintaining various parish rotas.
  • Assisting with fundraising and community-based parish events. We're seeking someone who is not only competent in administration but who also embodies our diocesan values of Competence, Reliability, Honesty, Perseverance, and Love., Previous experience in an administrative or secretarial role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Good problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel and Publisher.

Desirable
  • Experience working within a faith-based, charitable or non-profit organisation.
  • An understanding of the Catholic Church and its structures.

  • Experience working in a faith-based or charitable setting is welcome but not essential.
