Job summary

Evora Hospice in Newry is seeking a Health Care Assistant to join the inpatient team, providing holistic palliative care to patients and families. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to support daily living activities and clinical tasks under registered nurses.

The role requires compassion, strong communication, and a commitment to confidentiality, with a 24-hour week distribution and Band 3 salary. You will contribute to high standards of care and participate in mandatory training.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in Health Social Care (or equivalent).
• A minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience.
• Ability to deliver holistic care with high standards.
• Knowledge of palliative care responsibilities.
• Excellent communication, record keeping, and time management.
• Flexible, reliable and able to work in a team.
• Commitment to confidentiality and data protection.
• Maintain high personal integrity and accountability.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with fundamental nursing care in activities of daily living as delegated by registered nursing staff.
• Undertake clinical duties delegated by registered nursing staff (venepuncture, simple dressings, observations).
• Communicate empathetically with patients, relatives and colleagues.
• Observe and report changes in patients' condition and coordinate with the MDT in emergencies.
• Promote Evora Hospice values and advocate for the hospice.
• Maintain hygiene standards and infection prevention policies.
• Signpost patients to services and access available benefits as needed.
• Work within own competences and escalate beyond to registered staff.
• Maintain equipment and stock levels and assist with ordering.
• Participate in supervision, training and audits to improve patient outcomes.
