Job summary

Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust in West Essex seeks a pediatric nurse to deliver high-quality outpatient care for children from birth to 16 years, centred on family needs. You will maintain evidence-based practice, update knowledge, and contribute to service development within a multidisciplinary team.

This role includes nursing care, venipuncture, allergy and diabetes testing, EpiPen training, and thorough documentation while upholding the NMC Code and patient confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Nurse to provide child and family centred care in out-patient settings.
• Carry out nursing duties for birth to age 16, with ability to extend for chronic conditions.
• Contribute to teaching and supervision of junior staff and students.

Responsibilities

• Carry out all relevant forms of nursing care and patient management for children birth to 16 years.
• Participate in supervision and teaching of new staff, nursing students and paramedics.
• Provide high standard clinical care, venepuncture, allergy testing, diabetes control testing, and EpiPen training as required.
• Record observations, report accidents, and maintain family centred care.
• Work in partnership with multidisciplinary team; ensure documentation is complete and in line with NMC and Trust guidelines.

Job overview

To provide effective clinical and holistic individualised family centred care to the patients and families during their out-patient appointment, ensuring delivery is to the highest standard. Maintaining evidenced based practice is performed at all times, being responsible for updating own knowledge and skills in line with the Trust polices, multidisciplinary team and the NMC Code. Developing leadership skills, actively participating in service development.

Main duties of the job

Carry out all relevant forms of nursing care and patient management for children aged from birth to 16 years (this may be extended for children with chronic/complex conditions)

Participate in the supervision and teaching of new members of staff including nursing students and paramedics

• Provide and maintain high standard of clinical effective nursing cares at all times
• To provide and maintain specific clinical skills, allergy testing, diabetes control testing, EpiPen training, recording observations if required. Therefore, assisting in the provision of a safe, efficient service.
• Venepuncture for the under 1’s Phlebotomy clinic carried out weekly on Fridays.
• Reporting and recording accidents and untoward incidents according to Trust Policy and Guidelines
• Responsible to provide family centred care in the setting, considering the patients individual medical, emotional, social and psychological need

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

• Identifies own learning needs and receives appropriate supervision in line with trust policy.
• To act as an advocate for the child and family representing best interest of the child, young person in partnership with parents/carers.
• To participate in staff appraisal, staff development and in-service training activities.
• To ensure that treatments prescribed by the medical staff are carried out.
• Able to independently teach, support and encourage children and young people to participate in meeting their own care needs.
• Practice high standards of professional conduct in line with the trust policy and the NMC Code.
• Working in partnership with the multidisciplinary team, supporting children and young people who are admitted for a planned procedure and treatments.
• To ensure that documentation is complete and up to date in line with NMC and Trust guidelines.
• Ensures patient confidentiality at all times in line with trust guidelines and NMC Code
• Able to access with appropriate training, the trusts software packages required for the trust.
• Maintaining nursing records to the trust standards of record keeping and record keeping NMC
