Job summary

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a paediatric nurse to deliver holistic, family-centred care in outpatient settings within West Essex. You will participate in service development, supervise new staff and ensure high standards of clinical practice in line with the NMC Code.

The role includes allergy testing, diabetes control testing and EpiPen training, with regular venepuncture clinics for under 1s. A commitment to safeguarding and multidisciplinary teamwork is essential.

Qualifications

• Registered paediatric nurse with current NMC registration.
• Experience in outpatient/acute paediatric settings preferred.
• Knowledge of safeguarding children and best practice.
• Ability to teach and supervise junior staff and students.

Responsibilities

• Provide and maintain high standards of nursing care for paediatric outpatients.
• Administer treatments and monitor observations per trust policy.
• Perform venepuncture and phlebotomy for appropriate age groups.
• Maintain complete, accurate records in line with NMC and trust guidelines.
• Support families, consider medical, emotional, social and psychological needs.
• Ensure confidentiality and use of trust software for documentation.

Job description

To provide effective clinical and holistic individualised family centred care to the patients and families during their out-patient appointment, ensuring delivery is to the highest standard. Maintaining evidenced based practice is performed at all times, being responsible for updating own knowledge and skills in line with the Trust polices, multidisciplinary team and the NMC Code. Developing leadership skills, actively participating in service development., Carry out all relevant forms of nursing care and patient management for children aged from birth to 16 years (this may be extended for children with chronic/complex conditions) Participate in the supervision and teaching of new members of staff including nursing students and paramedics Provide and maintain high standard of clinical effective nursing cares at all times To provide and maintain specific clinical skills, allergy testing, diabetes control testing, EpiPen training, recording observations if required. Therefore, assisting in the provision of a safe, efficient service. Venepuncture for the under 1s Phlebotomy clinic carried out weekly on Fridays. Detailed job description and main responsibilities

• Identifies own learning needs and receives appropriate supervision in line with trust policy.
• To act as an advocate for the child and family representing best interest of the child, young person in partnership with parents/carers.
• To participate in staff appraisal, staff development and in-service training activities.
• To ensure that treatments prescribed by the medical staff are carried out.
• Able to independently teach, support and encourage children and young people to participate in meeting their own care needs.
• Practice high standards of professional conduct in line with the trust policy and the NMC Code.
• Working in partnership with the multidisciplinary team, supporting children and young people who are admitted for a planned procedure and treatments.
• To ensure that documentation is complete and up to date in line with NMC and Trust guidelines.
• Ensures patient confidentiality at all times in line with trust guidelines and NMC Code
• Able to access with appropriate training, the trusts software packages required for the trust.
• Maintaining nursing records to the trust standards of record keeping and record keeping NMC
  Knowledge and experience of providing nursing care for children within an acute Paediatric Out-patient department/ward
• Working with children/young people and families, within a multicultural environment
• Experience or knowledge of safeguarding children
• Knowledge of evidenced based practice
