  • Identifies own learning needs and seeks appropriate supervision in line with trust policy.
  • Acts as advocate for the child and family in partnership with parents/carers.
  • Participates in staff appraisal, staff development and in-service training activities.
  • Ensures treatments prescribed by medical staff are carried out.
  • Able to independently teach, support and encourage children and young people to participate in meeting their own care needs.
  • Maintains high standards of professional conduct per trust policy and the NMC Code.
  • Works in partnership with the multidisciplinary team to support procedures and treatments.
  • Ensures documentation is complete and up to date per NMC and Trust guidelines.
  • Keeps patient confidentiality in line with trust guidelines and NMC Code.
  • Able to access the trust software packages required for the role.
  • Maintains nursing records to trust standards of record keeping.

Job Overview

To provide effective clinical and holistic individualised family centred care to the patients and families during their out-patient appointment, ensuring delivery is to the highest standard. Maintaining evidenced based practice is performed at all times, being responsible for updating own knowledge and skills in line with the Trust polices, multidisciplinary team and the NMC Code. Developing leadership skills, actively participating in service development.

Main duties of the job

Carry out all relevant forms of nursing care and patient management for children aged from birth to 16 years (this may be extended for children with chronic/complex conditions). Participate in the supervision and teaching of new members of staff including nursing students and paramedics.

  • Provide and maintain high standard of clinical effective nursing cares at all times
  • To provide and maintain specific clinical skills, allergy testing, diabetes control testing, EpiPen training, recording observations if required. Therefore, assisting in the provision of a safe, efficient service.
  • Venepuncture for the under 1's Phlebotomy clinic carried out weekly on Fridays.
  • Reporting and recording accidents and untoward incidents according to Trust Policy and Guidelines
  • Responsible to provide family centred care in the setting, considering the patients individual medical, emotional, social and psychological need
