Job summary

Greencore Group in Consett is recruiting for a Packing Operator to join our busy packing area. You will perform regular quality checks on finished meals and prepare them for despatch, working on rotating shifts 06:00-14:00 and 14:00-22:00, Monday to Friday.

The role pays £12.85 per hour. Full training will be provided, and you will join a supportive team delivering high‑quality products to retailers.

Qualifications

• Experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred.
• Good literacy and numeracy skills.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Good communicator and team player.
• Allergen awareness.
• Food Safety Level 2 training preferred but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Operate machines in packing area following safety and quality procedures.
• Regularly check labels, coding and packaging to meet customer specs.
• Assess and report anomalies and issues.
• Put sleeves onto finished ready meals.
• Quality check final products and ensure correct marketing materials.
• Prepare pallets for despatch.

What you'll be doing

In this role as a Packing Operator, you will either work in our packing area. In Packing, you will perform regular quality checks to our finished products, making sure they are completed to a high standard and preparing them for Despatch. Tasks will involve:

• Operating the machines in line with related safety and quality procedures
• Regular checking on labels, coding and packaging to ensure all products are packed to customer specification
• Asses and report anomalies and issues
• putting sleeves onto finished ready meals
• quality checking final products, making sure it's a high quality and the correct marketing has been used
• preparing pallets for Despatch

What we're looking for

Full training will be provided if successful in this role but are looking for the following knowledge and experience:

• Experience working within a food manufacturer preferred
• Good Literacy and Numeracy skills
• Problem solving skills
• Good communicator and ability to work in a team
• Allergen awareness
• L2 Food Safety is preferred but not essential
