Job summary

Marie Curie is seeking a Healthcare Assistant to join our community-based overnight service across Angus, Perth and Kinross and North East Fife. You will work in patients’ homes, providing compassionate, person-centred care during the night.

You will access visit schedules via an electronic tablet, contact families before visits, document all care, and escalate concerns to the out-of-hours team. The role is part-time overnight 10pm–7am, based from home within a 25-mile radius.

Qualifications

• 6 months’ experience delivering care in health or social care settings.
• Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
• NVQ Level 2 Health and Social Care (or willingness to work towards).
• Nurturing, compassionate approach with excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work independently within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Access visit schedules via the electronic tablet system at the start of each shift.
• Contact patients and families prior to arrival to confirm visits and provide reassurance.
• Attend patients’ homes and liaise with patient, family and out-of-hours service.
• Deliver high-quality, person-centred care including pain and symptom management, monitoring and fluid intake.
• Document care and observations in the patient’s electronic records.
• Work one-to-one in the patient’s home, ensuring safety, dignity and professionalism.
• Provide overnight support and companionship, monitoring for deterioration.
• Escalate concerns to the out-of-hours service promptly.
• Deliver sensitive care following a patient’s death and complete required documentation.
