Job summary

Marie Curie seeks a dedicated Healthcare Assistant to join our overnight community-based service in Dumfries and Galloway, covering Upper and Lower Annandale and Eskdale. You will work in patients' homes, ensuring comfort, dignity and continuity of care during night hours, with support from a multidisciplinary team.

Your role focuses on delivering high-quality, person-centred care, communicating with patients and families, and documenting care in electronic records.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 months’ experience delivering care in health or social care setting.
• Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
• S/NVQ Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care (or willingness to work towards).
• An nurturing and compassionate approach, with excellent communication skills.
• The ability to work independently while being an integral part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Access visit schedules via electronic tablet system at the start of each shift.
• Contact patients and families before arrival to confirm the visit.
• Attend patients’ homes and liaise with patient and family and out-of-hours service.
• Deliver high-quality, person-centred care including pain and symptom management and monitoring.
• Accurately document all care in the patient’s electronic records.
• Provide overnight support to a single patient with companionship and monitoring.
• Escalate concerns to the out-of-hours service promptly.
• Provide care after a patient’s death including personal care and body preparation.
• Notify the out-of-hours service if a patient passes and complete documentation.
