Marie Curie is seeking a compassionate Healthcare Assistant to join our community-based overnight service in the Scottish Borders, supporting people with terminal illness at home. You will work nights, visit patients within a 25-mile radius, and provide dignified, person-centred care in a multidisciplinary setting.

You will document care, communicate with families, and escalate changes to the out-of-hours service.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 months' care experience in health or social care.
• Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle.
• NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care (or willingness to work towards).
• Nurturing, compassionate approach with excellent communication.
• Ability to work independently within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsabilités

• Access visit schedules and patient details via tablet at shift start.
• Contact patients/families before arrival to confirm visits and reassure.
• Attend patients' homes and liaise with patient, family and out-of-hours team.
• Deliver high-quality, person-centred care including pain and symptom management.
• Document all care and observations in electronic records.
• Work independently one-to-one in patients' homes, maintaining dignity and safety.
• Provide overnight support to a single patient, monitoring for deterioration.
• Escalate concerns to the out-of-hours service promptly.
• Provide respectful care after death, including body prep.
• Notify out-of-hours on patient death and complete required documentation.
