Job summary

Pearson is seeking an Oracle Engineering Manager to lead our Oracle team on the TOpS programme. You will drive delivery, quality and technical direction for Oracle Database, APEX apps and data pipelines, ensuring trustworthy data, security, and maintainability.

This is a people leadership role with hands-on technical credibility; you will line manage engineers, set standards and interact with product owners, architects, QA and business SMEs in a hybrid UK setting, with regular stakeholder

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading and line managing an Oracle engineering team.
• Experience delivering data-focused projects in large programmes.
• Strong Agile delivery experience (Scrum/Kanban) with Jira.
• Ability to manage risks, issues and dependencies on complex programmes.
• Excellent communication, able to present to senior stakeholders in non-technical terms.

Responsibilities

• Lead, line manage, coach and develop a team of Oracle engineers.
• Own delivery planning with product owners: backlog, estimation, sprint planning, releases.
• Set engineering standards for SQL, PL/SQL and APEX development; code review and CI/CD.
• Provide technical direction on Oracle APEX architecture, security, and performance.
• Oversee data pipelines design and operation to ensure reliability and SLAs.
• Define and embed a data quality framework with validation and reconciliation.
• Ensure data protection, security, and audit requirements across solutions.
• Manage risks, issues, dependencies including third-party suppliers.
• Lead incident and problem management for live services.
