Job summary

Pearson is seeking an Oracle Engineering Manager to lead the Oracle engineering team on the TOpS programme. You will be accountable for delivery, quality and technical direction across Oracle Database, Oracle APEX applications and data pipelines, ensuring trustworthy data, secure and supportable solutions, and predictable delivery.

This is a people leadership role requiring line management, setting standards, and collaboration with product owners, architects, QA, PMs and business SMEs.

Qualifications

• Experience leading Oracle engineering teams delivering data-focused projects.
• Ability to review designs and complex PL/SQL packages.
• Strong leadership with recruiting, coaching and building high-performing teams.
• Excellent communication to senior stakeholders and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of Oracle engineers, including recruitment and performance reviews.
• Own delivery planning with product owners: backlog prioritisation, estimation, sprint planning, releases.
• Set and uphold engineering standards for SQL, PL/SQL and APEX development with CI/CD and testing.
• Provide technical direction on Oracle APEX architecture, security, performance and environment mgmt.
• Oversee design, operation and monitoring of data pipelines for reliability and performance.
• Define and embed a data quality framework with validation and reconciliation.
• Ensure data protection, security and audit compliance in collaboration with architecture and security colleagues.
• Manage risks and dependencies, including suppliers and Pearson teams.
• Lead incident management for live services and drive continuous improvement.
