Job summary

Pearson is seeking an Oracle Engineering Manager to lead the Oracle engineering team on the TOpS programme. You will drive delivery, quality, and technical direction across Oracle Database, Oracle APEX applications and data pipelines, ensuring trustworthy, secure, and supportable solutions.

This is a people leadership role with strong technical credibility; you will line manage engineers, set standards, and present progress to senior stakeholders in clear terms. Hybrid working with UK offices.

Qualifications

• Has moved into leadership with track record of engineering teams delivering data-focused projects.
• Able to review complex PL/SQL and designs
• Strong communication to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Experience with Oracle Database 19c+ and APEX
• Experience with data pipelines, ETL/ELT and data governance

Responsibilities

• Lead, line manage, coach and develop a team of Oracle engineers.
• Own delivery planning with product owners: backlog prioritisation, estimation, sprint planning, release management.
• Set up engineering standards for SQL, PL/SQL and APEX development including CI/CD and testing.
• Provide technical direction on APEX architecture, security and performance.
• Oversee data pipelines design, operation and monitoring to meet SLAs.
• Define and embed a data quality framework with validation and reconciliation.
• Ensure data protection, security and audit requirements are met.
• Manage risks, issues and dependencies including third-party suppliers.
• Lead incident and problem management for live services.
