Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive eye examinations with high patient care standards.
  • Support contact lens services as part of the optical team.
  • Deliver extended eye care services and develop patient services.
  • Collaborate with the Dispensing Optician Manager and wider team.
  • Coach and support colleagues while maintaining clinical and operational standards.
  • Contribute to development of new services and improvements in patient care.

Optometrist - Full Time - 40 Hours per Week

£49,400 - £62,900, depending on experience

We're currently recruiting for a qualified Optometrist to join a well-established and forward-thinking optical team in the St Austell area.

The Role

As an Optometrist, you'll play an important role in delivering high-quality patient care while supporting the wider optical team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing comprehensive eye examinations and excellent patient care
  • Supporting contact lens services
  • Delivering extended eye care services
  • Working closely with the Dispensing Optician Manager and wider team
  • Coaching and supporting colleagues
  • Maintaining high clinical and operational standards
  • Contributing to the development of new and enhanced patient services

Due to extended NHS service contracts, you'll have the opportunity to support the treatment and monitoring of eye conditions, with additional accreditations fully funded and supported where required.

You'll receive comprehensive professional development and training, including a strong CPD programme and protected time to complete additional accreditations.

There is also the opportunity, where appropriate, for GOC-registered professionals to supervise students - providing a rewarding way to support the next generation of optical professionals while developing your own skills.

You'll also have access to in-store, regional and central support teams, ensuring expert guidance is available for both clinical and service-related queries.

Hours & Rota

40 hours per week - Full Time

The role operates on a two-week rota:

Week 1

Saturday - 09:00-17:30

Monday - 09:00-17:30

Tuesday - 09:00-17:30

Wednesday - 09:00-17:30

Thursday - 09:00-17:30

Week 2

Monday - 09:00-17:30

Tuesday - 09:00-17:30

Wednesday - 09:00-17:30

Thursday - 09:00-17:30

Friday - 09:00-17:30

About You

We're looking for an Optometrist who combines strong clinical skills with a genuine passion for patient care and customer service.

You'll have:

  • Full GOC registration
  • NHS performer registration with your relevant area team or health board
  • MECs or WECs accreditation, or a willingness to achieve the relevant accreditation within 12 months - fully funded and supported
  • A commitment to maintaining your statutory CPD requirements
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A passion for delivering high standards of clinical care
  • An interest in developing patient services and supporting the wider optical team

You'll also need to have the right to work in the UK. As part of the compliance process, you'll be required to provide evidence of NHS performer-list registration and two clinical references.
