Overview – Optical Assistant, Dunstable

A very exciting opportunity has become available for a customer focused Optical Assistant on a full time, permanent basis in a very busy practice in Dunstable. We are recruiting for a franchise of one of the UK’s most trusted optical brands. You must have a minimum of 12 months experience working within optics. If not, your application will be automatically rejected.

Responsibilities of the Optical Assistant

• Occasionally taking on added responsibilities in the manager’s absence, such as keyholder, opening + closing, and overseeing the team.
• Dispensing spectacles to all levels, conducting pre-screen tests and contact lens teaching.
• Frame styling, adjustments, collections, and giving patients advice on the best options.
• Reception duties and general admin to aid the smooth running of the practice.

Requirements of the Optical Assistant

As an Optical Assistant you will work on the shopfloor in the dispensing team. You will help junior members of the team with questions and troubleshooting, and contribute to best practice and clinical compliance.

Compensation – Optical Assistant

• Salary: £26,000
• Contract: Full-time, alternate weekends (one on, one off – Saturdays + Sundays)
• Location: Dunstable
• Free parking
• Bonus: Customer service based, record based, and Team KPI based

This practice is situated in a busy supermarket with a large and loyal customer base; there is another site on the high street and occasional travel to that location may be required.

Responsibilities of the Qualified Dispensing Optician

As a senior member of the team, you will support the dispensing team with training and development and provide advice where needed. You will take on an in-store trainer role and fulfill all dispensing duties.

Requirements of the Qualified Dispensing Optician

• Work on the shop floor in the dispensing team.
• Strong leadership skills and comfort in providing training.
• Contribute to best practice and clinical compliance as a member of the stores team.

• Salary: up to £30,000
• Team-based bonus scheme (approx £200–£300 per month)
