Job summary

New Medical Systems Ltd, trading as Newmedica, seeks a Scrub Nurse/Practitioner for its ophthalmology theatre team. You will scrub for surgeons on high-volume cataract lists, set up theatres and phaco equipment, and support admissions, discharge and audits across multiple ophthalmic pathways.

Applicants must be registered (NMC/HCPC) and hold a nursing degree or equivalent, with demonstrable scrub skills and a commitment to patient care and CPD.

Qualifications

• Nursing degree or equivalent required.
• Current NMC or HCPC registration.
• Demonstrable experience across ophthalmic pathways including cataract, vitreoretinal and oculoplastic services.

Responsibilities

• Scrub for surgeons through the daily theatre list, anticipating and resolving problems.
• Set up theatre, phaco machines and instrumentation ready for each patient.
• Support the admissions and discharge team.
• Liaise with stores to ensure the correct consumables are in place.
• Complete assigned audits (monthly, quarterly, annual).
• Keep accurate patient records and upload documentation.
• Post-operative calls within 24 hours and escalate clinical concerns.
• Manage medicines and clinical waste, including disposal procedures.
• Clean down the theatre at day end, maintain hygiene standards.
• Report incidents via governance portal.
• Join rotational on-call team (remunerated).
• Teach and train clinical staff, contribute to audit and research projects.
