Qualifications

This is an exciting opportunity to make a difference to women and their families. Join our highly motivated Midwifery team in West Sussex, committed to high-quality, woman-centred care.

All posts include shift work (including nights) and on-call duties. Successful applicants will receive comprehensive orientation and support.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide high standard of Midwifery care in both Acute and Primary Care Settings.
  • Supervise, care, and advise women during pregnancy, labour, and postpartum, including conducting deliveries.
  • Work autonomously following NMC and Trust guidelines.
  • Participate in professional development and preceptorship.
  • Communicate effectively and support team coordination.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain relationships with women, families, and multidisciplinary team.
  • Motivate, negotiate, and train others.
  • Communicate sensitively, especially when delivering difficult news.
  • Provide counselling and reassurance, referring barriers or difficulties.
  • Empower women to make informed choices and advocate as needed.
  • Engage with child protection issues appropriately.

  • Expertise in physiological birth.
  • Care for women with complex needs in partnership with the team.
  • Plan and implement individualised care, advocating for women.
  • Recognise deviations from normal, risk assess, and report.
  • Take appropriate emergency actions.

  • Understand departmental and organisational roles.
  • Support daily operations of the Maternity Department.
  • Prioritise workload effectively.
  • Mentor junior colleagues and students.

Qualifications

  • Registered Midwife
  • Degree level education or relevant experience
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development

Knowledge & Experience

  • K2 CTG or working towards
  • Caring for high-risk women
  • Facilitation of water and home births
  • Perineal repair
  • Current driving license

Human Resources

  • Support colleagues and share information and training.
  • Maintain CPD and professional portfolio.

Information Resources/IT

  • Basic IT skills
  • Experience with IT systems in an Acute Trust
