Contract type: Two-year Fixed Term Contract

Location: UK Wide (Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Manchester, or London)

Role Purpose:

The role involves planning and tracking exam capacity requirements against demand, translating demand into resource needs for venues, personnel, and materials to optimize operations and margins while maintaining service levels and flexibility.

Role Context:

The English and Examinations Strategic Business Unit (E&E) aims to build trust for the UK by fostering relationships through language and culture. It enables access to education and work opportunities via English language learning and UK qualifications, promoting cross-cultural communication and understanding.

The Examinations business significantly contributes to the British Council's financial sustainability and must evolve in a dynamic environment.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Translate demand into capacity plans for venues, staff, and materials.
  • Develop venue strategies, collaborate with procurement and venue owners.
  • Share best practices to improve operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure customer experience standards are met through feedback and continuous improvement.
  • Resolve complex customer complaints, keeping clients informed throughout.
  • Monitor compliance with risk management policies to protect organizational interests.
  • Analyze business data and prepare reports for planning and audits.
  • Manage budgets and resources effectively using financial systems.
  • Motivate and coach team members, including remote teams, to enhance performance.

Role-Specific Requirements:

  • Experience managing small teams or demonstrating management potential.
  • Experience in an Exams environment.
  • Ability to identify and implement service improvements.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience translating demand into operational capacity.
  • Ability to manage large, remote, non-permanent teams and oversee performance.
