Job summary

Cromwell Group (Holdings) Ltd is seeking an Operations Manager to lead a Bristol-based hub and cover the surrounding area. You will work with the Area Manager to drive service quality, optimise the hub fleet, and ensure safe, efficient operations while delivering profitable sales growth.

The role requires proven team leadership in a warehouse setting, with a focus on coaching, communication, and KPI achievement. UK-based travel within the hub network is expected as part of the role.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a Team Leader / People Leader role.
  • Demonstrable experience managing a warehouse environment.
  • Knowledge of industrial supplies Engineering or a Technical background (desirable).
  • Experience within an internal or external sales role.
  • PC Literate (MS Office).
  • Forklift License is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the main Hub location, supporting the Area Manager and ensuring safe, efficient operations.
  • Recruit, onboard and lead hub teams, develop staff, and communicate key updates.
  • Resolve issues affecting service fulfilment and drive continuous improvements.
  • Manage hub fleet and delivery operations, using optimisation tools to ensure timely, accurate deliveries.
  • Increase local visibility, grow sales, and support customer service for timely resolutions.
  • Oversee stock, trade counter, and fleet operations to meet service levels and budgets.
  • Control hub costs, maintain productivity, and uphold ISO standards (45001, 14001, 9001, 9120).

Job description

We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Operations Manager to join our Operations team, based in Bristol but covering the surrounding area.

The role will be to support the Area Manager in leading a team of people with clear objectives focused on delivering the key business accountabilities. Accountable for service quality with customers within the main hub location supporting the linked express locations. Partner with the relevant Sales Manager(s) customer service colleagues and all relevant stakeholders to build and maintain relationships with local customers and sales teams to drive profitable sales and deliver the highest standards of delivery service. Accountable for Hub optimisation, deployment of branch fleet and people resource and for all aspects of service fulfilment ensuring KPI’s financial/sales targets are not only met but exceeded working collaboratively with the Area Manager and assume their responsibilities/accountabilities within the main Hub location and the Express in their absence.

What would you do on a normal day?
  • Taking active accountability and ownership of the main Hub location only supporting the Area Manager in the territory supporting absence ensuring great communication & collaboration to deliver a safe efficient working environment in the main Hub.
  • Effectively recruit, onboard, and lead all hub team in line with our Principles, ensuring to develop, motivate and coach them to achieve business goals and objectives. You will be responsible for supporting the communication of key business updates and creating an overall great place to work.
  • Accountable and own any issues affecting service fulfilment, identify resolutions, implement actions, review outcomes, and upscale where appropriate. Action continuous improvement opportunities where possible
  • Accountable for the effective management of the hub fleet, delivery operations and optimisation software (Maxoptra) to ensure that our customers receive the right goods, at the right time, with optimal efficiency and secure proof of delivery within the main Hub location.
  • Accountable for local visibility and presence via optimised deployment of the branch fleet, reduced reliance on couriers, and maximising opportunities to grow sales within the single hub location.
  • Support the Customer Service team, and local Customer Advocates, to support in the resolution of customer queries and service fulfilment within agreed timeframes
  • Accountable for the effectiveness of stock management, trade counter/collection point and fleet operations to fully meet customer needs and agreed service levels within the main Hub Location.
  • Accountable for reducing or maintaining hub cost effectiveness, reducing/eliminating unnecessary costs and remaining within budgets, whilst maintaining productivity and quality of service to grow our business in a profitable wayu
  • Responsible for all aspects of branch compliance and Health & Safety. To be accountable and responsible for all role impacts and touchpoints with ISO standards to include but not limited to 45001(H&S) 14001 (ENVIRO) 9001 (Quality) and 9120(Aerospace)
