Job summary

The Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust invites applications for a Consultant post in the breast unit with an oncoplastic focus. The role covers outpatient clinics, operating sessions, ward rounds, and MDT meetings, within a four-consultant team.

There is no out-of-hours on-call commitment and candidates must be on GMC Specialist Register or due within six months of interview. Responsibilities include daily breast coverage, audit, CPD, teaching and research.

Qualifications

• Fellowship and/or advanced clinical experience in Level 2 oncoplastic techniques.
• Experience in breast oncology and plastics.
• Clinical training and experience to supervise and give expert opinion.

Responsibilities

• Outpatient clinics covering symptomatic, screening and oncoplastic patients.
• Operating sessions.
• Pre- and post-operative ward rounds and clinical administration.
• Multidisciplinary team meetings.
• Daily rotational breast cover within the team, with out-of-hours post-operative complications handled by the team.
• Supporting professional activities: audit, mandatory training, CPD, teaching and appraisal.
• Research and activity serving the wider NHS, encouraged within SPA time.

Skills

Fellowship in oncoplastic techniques

Breast oncology experience

Leadership and supervision

Clinical governance and audit

Education

MBBS or equivalent medical qualification

MRCP or equivalent medical qualification

Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (UK) or equivalent
